05.06.10Health IT Savings Will Be Bigger Than Projected
Vice President Biden, speaking at a press conference earlier this week to announce new Beacon Community health IT awards, said that he felt there would be increased saving when electronic health records are fully implemented in 2014. One of the organizations receiving an award was HEALTHeLINK, the Western New York Clinical Information Exchange in Buffalo, NY. According to InformationWeek, they will receive $16 million to utilize clinical decision support tools such as registries, point-of-care alerts and reminders, and innovative telemedicine solutions to improve primary and specialty care for diabetic patients, decrease preventable emergency room visits, hospitalizations and re-admissions for patients with diabetes, congestive heart failure and pneumonia. The funds will also help improve immunization rates among diabetic patients. Anakam recently announced that HEALTHeLINK is leveraging the Anakam platform to provide authentication to over 25,000 clinicians as a cloud-based identity service offering to all its stakeholders, which include four provider and three payer organizations.
