03.25.10DEA releases interim rule on e-prescribing controlled substances
Today, the Drug Enforcement Administration issued an interim final rule regulating electronic prescribing of controlled substances. The summary of the rule states the the ruling has "the potential to reduce prescription forgery." The DEA has specifically asked for comments on the process of online identity proofing and user authentication, saying the rule "will help both pharmacies and hospitals to integrate prescription records into other medical records more directly, which may increase efficiency...."
